Director of Finance

Summary of Position

The Director of Finance is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the finance system through the financial statement; coordinating related financial activities with all programs and outreaches of CPOSH, including St. Joseph’s Indian School and its outreaches. The Director of Finance leads the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department. This is an exempt position.

Accountability

Reports to the Chief Executive Officer

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversees the accuracy and reporting of the financial activities of CPOSH Organizations
  • Oversees the yearly budget and audit processes
  • Works collaboratively with departments across the organization to ensure the organization’s financial success

Responsibilities

  1. Reviews contractual agreements and FASB rulings to verify compliance with reporting and servicing requirements of not-for-profit organizations.

  1. Directs the corporate budget process resulting in a budget document that clearly communicates how we intend to spend the funds raised in the given fiscal year in addition to providing other useful financial information. Continue to direct the budget process through approval, disbursement, accounting and auditing.

  1. Directs and leads the accounting and purchasing functions so they provide competent, high quality, customer focused services.

  1. Oversees the organization’s internal and external audit process, advising Management on controls and work flows, to accurately account for the organization’s monetary resources, ensuring financial success and compliance measures are met.

  1. Oversees an up-to-date, auditor-approved joint cost allocation program and meets proper charitable solicitation state requirements.

  1. Determines the correct handling of unusual or special transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  1. Identifies applications and oversees the development of software programs necessary to meet the information needs of the department.

  1. Maintains accurate, up-to-date filing system and statistical records in a secure, professional and confidential manner.

  1. Maintains the general and subsidiary ledger for preparation of financial statements in addition to providing on-going analysis, review and recommendations regarding our financial status.

  1. Directs the completion of various internal and external financial reports to assure delivery of specific information at required times.

  1. Performs other responsibilities as required by the Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications

  • MA in Accounting Required
  • Strong Written and Oral Communication Skills Required
  • Strong Organizational and Leadership Experience Required
  • Critical and Strategic Thinking Skills Necessary
  • CPA, CMA, CFM Preferred

Physical Demands

  • Uses both hands and wrists repetitively for prolonged periods.
  • Some supervision may require standing for prolonged periods.

Expectations of Hours Worked

At least 40 hours/week
